Portmeirion visit

Last week I got to do a proper road trip, from London to North Wales and back. It was very much a last minute adventure. I checked the weather forecast on Monday morning and it was high pressure all week. So Monday afternoon I set off. First stop was the Double Tree by Hilton outside Chester, a place I had stayed at before. This was to get the initial motorway drive done before heading into Wales.

For Day 2 I had a room booked at the Chainbridge Hotel in Llangollen. I wanted to stay at Portmeirion but it was fully booked, so instead my plan was to visit Portmeirion in the morning and then head over to the Chainbridge. I set off early and drove to Bangor, then down to Porthmadog, arriving at Portmeirion at 10am.

Had a good wander around, the weather was amazing ! After lunch I headed off to Llangollen, driving through the Snowdonia roads. The Chainbridge Hotel is perched on the side of a hill overlooking a river.

It's quite an interesting place, had a nice meal and then an early night deciding what to do on Wednesday. In the morning I checked the Portmeirion website and there's one room available, excellent ! So I have breakfast and pack the car, then around midday I set off on the reverse trip from yesterday, through Snowdonia.

The scenery is pretty good. I get to Portmeirion around 1:30pm. The checkin is at Castle Deudraeth, before driving down to the Tollgate where you are met by a porter on a buggy who shows you to your allocated parking bay.

I'm staying at Bridge House 4, which is an excellent room. It sits above the archway on the entrance path to the village.

It has amazing views over the estuary.

And over the village.

It also has it's own patio area.

I had dinner at the Castle, before heading back to the main Hotel for drinks. There was a full moon, so got some great pics of the village at night.

After breakfast on the Thursday morning I had a couple of hours to chill at the pool.

And then at 11am it was checkout and head back to London.. What a great trip !
